Stock market holiday: NSE BSE to remain closed today for Bakri Eid | Mint - Mint

Stock market today: On account of Bakri Eid 2023 festival being celebrated across nation, trading at NSE (National Exchange) and BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) will remain suspended on Thursday. This means, there will be no trading activity taking place at Indian stock market today. Earlier, stock market holiday for Bakri Eid 2023 was announced on 28th June 2023 but the Eid ul Adha holiday got shifted one day forward to 29th June 2023 following Maharashtra general administration department notification.

Clarifying upon the reason for revising the stock market holiday for Bakri Eid 2023, NSE notice said, "As per the attached notification of Maharashtra general administration department dated June 26, 2023 regarding change in holiday on account of Bakri ID on June 29, 2023 and in partial modification in exchange circular dated December 8, 2022, members may kindly note the change in trading holiday in June 2023 from June 28, 20223 to June 29, 2023."

According to the circular issued by BSE and NSE, there will be no action Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment and SLB Segment today. Trading at Currency Derivatives Segments will also remain suspended at the Indian stock market today for Bakri Eid celebration across nation.

No action on MCX, NCDEX?

In Commodity Derivatives Segment and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) Segment, trading activity will remain suspended in morning session from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, trading activity in Commodity Derivatives Segment and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) Segment will remain open in evening session. This means, trading in these segments will resume at 5:00 PM and it will end at its usual daily time i.e. at 11:30 PM.

As per the list of stock market holidays in June 2023, Eid ul Adha or Bakri Eid is the only stock market holiday falling in this month. Prior to Bakri Eid 223, Indian stock market was closed on May 1, 2023 for Maharashtra Day celebration.

Next holiday after Bakri Eid falls on 15th August 2023 for Independence Day celebrations across nation. In August, there will be just one stock market holiday falling on 15th August 2023. However, after Bakri Eid 2023, seven more stock market holidays will be left and those stock market holidays are Independence Day 2023 (15th August 2023), Ganesh Chaturthi (September 19,2023), Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (October 02,2023), Dussehra (October 24,2023), Diwali Balipratipada (November 14,2023), Gurunanak Jayanti (November 27,2023) and Christmas (December 25, 2023).

Historic Wednesday for Indian stock market

Following strong global cues on upbeat US economic news that eased global growth concerns, Indian stock market made history on Wednesday as both NSE Nifty and BSE Sensex scaled to a new high. After failing to hit a new high last week by just one point, Nifty 50 index finally climbed to a new life-time high of 19,011 whereas BSE Sensex hit new all-time high of 64,037 respectively. Bank Nifty finished 206 points higher at 44,327 mark.
