Japan & Luxembourg to Introduce a Working Holiday Program Starting June 2024 - VisaGuide.News - VisaGuide.World

Starting June 3, 2024, the governments of Japan and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg will introduce a Working Holiday Program between both countries.

The new program will allow citizens of Luxembourg between the ages of 18 and 30 to visit Japan for one year and to work while staying in the country. The same applies to Japanese citizens wishing to spend a year in Luxembourg, VisaGuide.World reports.

This program makes it possible for citizens of one country to enter the other country primarily for a holiday over an extended period and to be able to work incidentally during their holiday in order to supplement their travel funds.

Luxembourg Nationals Aged 18-30 Will Not Need to Obtain a Regular Work Visa for Japan

Under the scheme, Luxembourg citizens between 18 and 30 will not need to obtain a regular work visa for Japan, but they will need to apply for the new program.

Only citizens of Luxembourg who are also residents at the time of application will be able to benefit from the Working Holiday Program. In this regard, they must show proof of maintenance funds, around €1,900, and leave Japan at the end of their stay.

Application Procedure for Those Wishing to Apply for a Working Holiday

Persons wishing to apply for a working holiday visa to Japan must submit a copy of each of the following documents in person, together with a valid Luxembourg passport, to the consular section of the Embassy of Japan in Luxembourg.

Visas are valid for three months from the date of issue. This means that an applicant must enter Japan within three months of the visa being issued.

Working holiday visas are for a single entry. Therefore, if the Working Holiday visa holder needs to leave Japan for any reason and then wishes to return to Japan, he must obtain a special re-entry permit at the departure airport.

Moreover, such an announcement of work holidays from Japan comes just a few weeks after the Chinese embassy decided to extend visa-free entry for citizens of Luxembourg and many other countries until December 2025.

Travel extensions include a total of 12, allowing unlimited entry for short stays. According to Chinese authorities, the list of countries whose citizens will continue to enjoy visa-free entry privileges until the end of 2025 is as follows:

  1. Austria
  2. Belgium
  3. France
  4. Germany
  5. Hungary
  6. Ireland
  7. Italy
  8. Luxembourg
  9. Malaysia
  10. The Netherlands
  11. Spain
  12. Switzerland

Per the visa-free policy, passport holders of these 12 countries can enter China without needing to obtain a visa for stays of no more than 15 days.
