Expect busy roads and airports as Independence Day travel surges - WSKG.org

Image
WRVO – Many Americans will be wearing their red, white, and blue away from home this holiday weekend, as travel forecasts predict a surge of people on the roads and in airports. Elizabeth Carey from  AAA  said high gas prices and inflation are not going to keep millions from enjoying a holiday vacation. “Despite things costing more, people are finding a way to get out and about and enjoy that family time and enjoy that vacation,” said Carey. AAA predicts nearly 48 million people will travel 50 miles or more to celebrate the Fourth of July. Carey said drivers should be ready for roads to start getting busy as early as Thursday. “With the holiday being on a Monday, we do see a lot of people making a longer vacation out of it,” said Carey. “Rather than just the weekend, they’re saying, ‘Let’s make it into a weeklong vacation,’ or, ‘This is going to kick off our summer vacation.” And Trooper Jack Keller from the New York State Police is reminding travelers to drive safely. Why more air travel chaos is on its way - CNN

(CNN) — Now is the summer of our discontent, Shakespeare didn't exactly write in "Richard III," but for airline travelers in the US and Europe that's exactly what this summer is shaping up to be. Flights are vanishing from the schedules -- some at the last minute as airlines fail to offer the services that travelers have spent significant amounts of money on, often in the hope of enjoying their first escape in years. More than 1,500 flights were canceled in the US alone this past Saturday and Sunday, and the US is heading into its busy July 4 holiday weekend. Delta Air Lines has trimmed about 100 flights a day from its schedule in July to "minimize disruptions" and has issued a waiver for July 4 travelers as it braces for passenger volumes "not seen since before the pandemic. As Travel Restrictions Subside, Be Smart About Your Next Trip - Entrepreneur

If you're traveling this Fourth of July weekend, be sure to check your receipts. Add-on fees are the sneakiest and most common method that companies will use to drive up the cost of your next trip, but being aware of all of your options is the best way to save your wallet this summer travel season. Ahead of the July 4 holiday weekend, Nerdwallet compiled the most often overlooked hidden fees to watch out for when booking travel. Here's what to know: Most airline passengers gravitate toward the lowest-priced tickets, obviously, but this isn't always the smartest move, according to NerdWallet. Oftentimes, that low base price is only an option because the airline plans to slam the customer with hidden fees along the way, particularly at checkout — what experts refer to as "drip pricing." One example of "drip pricing" is now fairly common — paying more to select your seat. Related: First Major Airline Strikes a Deal With Pilots Union Whenever possibl

COVID: Parents asked to join early detection efforts after holiday - ANTARA English

Image
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The COVID-19 Handling Task Force has urged parents to participate in early detection efforts for COVID-19 after the school holiday period to prevent the spread of infections, especially among children. "We know that COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease; if we do not detect it early, it can actually endanger other people," member of the community empowerment team for health emergency support of the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Retno Asti Werdhani, said at the "Healthy Holiday, Children Protected from COVID-19" webinar, which was accessed from here on Wednesday. According to Werdhani, early detection efforts, which involve COVID-19 testing, are important amid the increasing number of cases in Indonesia. "Children are indeed a vulnerable population; we know that their immune response is not as good as that of adults, especially if the child is under five years old as they have not received the COVID-19 vaccine," she said. Press Releases 06/29/2022 Governor Lamont Reminds Residents That Connecticut’s Gas Tax Holiday and Fare-Free Bus Service Have Been Extended for Several Additional Months (HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today is reminding Connecticut residents that the law he signed earlier this year that suspends the state’s 25-cent-per-gallon excise tax on gasoline – which was initially set to expire on June 30, 2022 – has been extended for several additional months and will remain in effect through November 30, 2022. In March, the governor signed legislation ( Special Act 22-2 ) that suspended that tax from April 1 to June 30, 2022. Then in May, he signed a separate bill ( Public Act 22-118 ) that directs the duration of this tax holiday to continue through November 30, 2022. Similar to the gas tax holiday, the suspension of fares on all public transit buses statewide has also been extended for the same period. “The suspension of the gas tax helps provide some relief to consumers as they

Courtesy of Retailer There’s no denying that travel is amazing, but these days air travel can be expensive. There are also COVID restrictions to consider, and passengers have gotten more than a little crazy. Plus, passenger space is somehow always shrinking? This is all to say having the right gear makes a difference in the overall comfort of your travels. Noise-canceling headphones , a good sleep mask, and copious amounts of hand sanitizer go a long way toward ensuring the safest, most comfortable flight. For our money, the single best travel gear investment is a quality travel pillow. Aside from a stiff drink, it’s the one thing that makes flying tolerable. A Metroid Prime remaster is reportedly due to launch this year, with new versions of the two sequels to follow. "I've been told pretty definitively that Metroid Prime remastered is one [Nintendo's] big holiday games," insider Jeff Grubb reports on Giant Bomb's Game Mess Mornings podcast (opens in new tab) . "In the past, this is something I've heard was in the works, they have things happening with that game, now I've been told that their plans are to release that game this holiday, I think almost certainly to line up with the 20th anniversary in November." Grubb says that the remaster out this year will only include the first game. "I think that game would be designed in a way by Retro Studios, who's also making Metroid Prime 4, so that they can communicate to fans what to expect from Metroid Prime 4. To get used to things that might change." To that end, Grubb expects the remaster to include dual analog controls, unlike the G

More Israeli tourists are choosing to holiday in Sinai - Africanews English

Relaxing in the Red Sea. These tourists are having some much-needed vacation time on Egypt's Sinai peninsula. They are from Israel, a nation which once went to war with Egypt over this slice of land. But that turbulent history is far from their minds, the agenda today is about meditation, yoga and inner peace. After fighting two wars, Israel signed a peace treaty with neighbouring Egypt in 1979 and the two countries maintain close security cooperation. The peninsula is also a draw for Egyptians from the country's mainland, seeking a break from the cities and a slower pace of life. In some locations, it has become a rare place inside Egypt where locals and Israelis can mingle openly. Egypt's government is struggling to revive the vital tourism sector battered by years of instability following the 2011 uprising that toppled longtime autocrat Hosni Mubarak, then the coronavirus pandemic, and now the hit to tourism posed by the war in Ukraine. Disney, other US companies offer abortion travel benefits - The Jakarta Post - The Jakarta Post

David Shepardson and Dawn Chmielewski (Reuters) (The Jakarta Post) PREMIUM New York, United States   ●   Mon, June 27 2022 United States companies including Walt Disney Co and Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc said on Friday they will cover employees' expenses if they have to travel for abortion services after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. The US Supreme Court on Friday overturned the landmark 1973 ruling that recognized a woman's constitutional right to an abortion, handing a victory to Republicans and religious conservatives who want to limit or ban and, in some states criminalize, the procedure.  Many states are expected to further restrict or ban abortions following the ruling, making it difficult for female employees to terminate pregnancies unless they travel to states where the procedure is allowed. to Read Full Story SUBSCRIBE NOW Starting from IDR 55,500/month Unlimited access to our web and app content e-Post daily digital newspap
